Job Responsibilities

Learning Specialist

Learning Specialist Job Description

 

St. Joseph School “Where Our Children Shine” in North Grosvenordale, CT is looking for a part-time learning specialist to join our school community. The successful candidate will have a passion for helping students learn and grow in a “caring, respectful, and nurturing environment.”

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Develops screening assessment protocols and oversees completion of student assessments

  • Identifies priority learning needs for individual students, and discusses optimal strategies for maximizing each student’s growth with parents and faculty

  • Leads the process for identifying, monitoring, and remediating students who learn differently

  • Helps manage St. Joseph School’s Response to Intervention (RTI) process by defining appropriate general and specialized instruction and collaborating with classroom teachers to help ensure instruction is of high quality

  • In partnership with the Principal, attend all PPTs with Thompson Public Schools or other school districts as needed

  • Ability and willingness to attend professional development as needed to accommodate specific student needs

 

Job Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university; Master’s degree preferred. 

  • Strong knowledge base in the area of learning differences, especially dyslexia, dysgraphia, and dyscalculia. Experience with Orton-Gillingham reading approach preferred.

  • Current or previous Special Education certification through a state Board of Education preferred. 

  • Strong knowledge base about early intervention, RTI, assessments, acquisition of reading, and be familiar with current instructional practices of reading, writing, and mathematics at the K-8 grade levels

  • Higher education degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Early Childhood Special Education, Elementary Education OR A non-Early Childhood Education degree with 36 higher education credits in early childhood education, child development, elementary education, or early childhood special education OR a CT state certification to be a public school teacher in public school reflective of Pre-K.
